Interns: Do not observe they facilitate Do not study theory they apply it Do not complete assignments they create impact This is, Fuller argues, where the Naming Gap truly begins not when a form asks for self-description, not when an interview requires confidence, but much earlier, at the moment when experience was lived but not perceived as formative. "If you don't perceive something as shaping you," he writes, "you won't look for words to describe it. If you don't look for words, recognition never arrives. If recognition never arrives, experience remains unintegrated." THE ONE WHO WAS ALWAYS STEADY He could list dozens of moments when he had stepped in mediating conflict, holding things together, adapting when plans fell apart. Each moment felt necessary. None felt formative. They didn't connect. One situation ended, another began. Responsibility stacked, but meaning didn't. When asked what kind of work he was drawn to, his answers stayed vague not because he lacked interest, but because his experience had never organized itself. What looked like indecision was fragmentation. The Naming Gap wasn't created by absence. It was created by accumulation without language.
