Youth Respite Provider Safety, Support & Emotional Regulation
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Youth Respite Provider to support a wonderful young boy with autism in the Black River Falls, WI area. This rewarding role focuses on providing a safe, structured environment while supporting emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, communication, and daily routines.
The child has a seizure disorder, and communicates primarily through non-verbal methods. At times, he may display aggressive behaviors as a form of communication when he is overwhelmed or unable to express his needs. The ideal candidate will approach these moments with patience, consistency, and a calm, supportive demeanor.
Location: Black River Falls, WI (Family Residence)
Compensation: $17.66/hour or $256/Overnight
Current Schedule: Saturday Afternoons - Up to 5Hr to Start
*The goal is for respite care to grow into weekend overnights in the family home, then shifting the 5 original hours to flexible weekday afternoons.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one supervision while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
• Support emotional regulation using calm, consistent approaches.
• Monitor for seizure activity and follow established care and safety plans.
• Assist with personal care, including toileting, in a respectful and dignified manner.
• Communicate using the child's preferred non-verbal communication methods and respond to behavioral cues.
• Engage the child in age-appropriate activities that encourage participation, sensory regulation, and enjoyment.
• Follow established routines and collaborate closely with the family to ensure consistent care.
Ideal Candidate
• Patient, compassionate, and dependable.
• Calm under pressure and able to respond thoughtfully during challenging behaviors.
• Experience supporting children with autism, developmental disabilities, or sensory processing differences.
• Comfortable supporting a child who is non-verbal and has a seizure disorder.
• Able to balance active engagement with quiet, sensory-friendly activities.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with families.
• Previous respite, caregiving, education, or healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
Requirements
• Must successfully pass a caregiver/criminal background check.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
• Ability to safely assist with personal care and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Experience with non-verbal communication methods or willingness to learn.
