Job description

SMYTH Golf is looking for an experienced Senior Golf Bag & Soft Goods Designer to help us develop a new generation of premium golf bags.

SMYTH is a golf brand created by SM Global Group, backed by decades of product development, manufacturing, and sourcing experience in the golf industry. Our experience includes golf balls, gloves, clubs, and other golf products, along with a long-standing relationship with Costco.

We have strong manufacturing, sourcing, and product development capabilities. What we are looking for is a design partner who can bring fresh thinking, innovation, and exceptional design to the golf bag category.

WHAT WE WANT TO CREATE

We want to start with one signature SMYTH stand bag designed from a clean sheet.

We are not looking to simply style another premium golf bag. We want to rethink the product from the golfer’s perspective — how clubs are organized, how the bag is carried, how pockets are accessed, how weight is distributed, how materials are used, and where meaningful improvements can be made.

Our design direction is clean, sophisticated, understated, and premium — but functionality and thoughtful innovation are equally important.

If the collaboration is successful, we see the opportunity to expand into cart bags, golf travel covers, duffels, backpacks, and other premium travel and soft goods.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are particularly interested in designers with experience in:

• Golf bags
• Premium or technical soft goods
• Performance backpacks
• Luggage and travel gear
• Outdoor or sporting goods

Direct golf bag design experience is strongly preferred, but we are also interested in exceptional soft goods designers who can bring new ideas from adjacent categories.

The ideal candidate understands not only styling, but also:

• Soft goods construction
• Materials and textiles
• Pocket architecture and organization
• Ergonomics and carrying systems
• Golf bag tops and divider systems
• Stand mechanisms
• Hardware, zippers, and trims
• Weight reduction
• Prototype development
• Technical specifications / tech packs
• Working with overseas factories

We are looking for someone who understands how to take an idea from concept through development into a manufacturable product — not simply create renderings.

THE ENGAGEMENT

This will begin as a freelance / consulting project focused on developing one signature SMYTH stand bag.

Our manufacturing and sourcing infrastructure is already in place, allowing the designer to focus on product innovation, design, functionality, and development.

For the right designer, this could develop into a longer-term relationship across multiple SMYTH product categories.

TO APPLY

Please send us:

• A portfolio showing relevant golf bag, soft goods, luggage, backpack, or sporting goods work
• A brief description of your role in those projects
• Examples of products that reached production, if available
• Your current availability
• A short answer to one question:

“What do you believe could be significantly improved about today’s golf bags?”

We are looking for original thinking and meaningful product innovation, not simply another variation of what is already on the market.
