  • Position Overview
  • Responsible for the end-to-end execution of network and telecommunications projects, from initiation through closure.
  • Define project scope, resources, milestones, deadlines, and implementation plans in coordination with internal technical teams, functional departments, and external vendors.
  • Manage vendor RFPs, contracts, implementation, and project execution while ensuring adherence to technical standards, best practices, and design specifications.
  • Coordinate network and telecommunications projects related to new construction, renovations, technology refreshes, and new technology implementations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Work outside of regular business hours and on some university holidays as needed to support essential services.
  • Key Responsibilities 1. Cabling Infrastructure & Vendor Management -- 60%
  • Design and develop structured cabling systems based on project requirements and applicable building codes.
  • Manage external vendors and subcontractors performing installation, servicing, and modifications of:
    • Copper, coaxial, and fiber-optic cabling
    • Telecommunications and T1 networks
    • LAN, VOIP, CATV, CCTV, and Audio/Video systems
  • Manage cable infrastructure projects, including estimating, budgeting, bidding, and specification analysis.
  • Develop technical specifications, RFP packages, project documentation, and vendor requirements.
  • Coordinate network installations, expansions, relocations, moves, adds, and changes.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Customer Services, and university departments to support construction and technology projects.
  • Monitor labor, materials, project progress, and job status.
  • Ensure materials are properly procured and delivered to project sites.
  • Ensure projects meet applicable NUnet, IEEE Ethernet, and TIA/EIA 568B standards.
  • Provide regular project updates, documentation, and status reports.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • 2. Project Management -- 30%
  • Define initial project scope, timelines, milestones, and required resources.
  • Coordinate internal IT teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage projects from initiation through successful completion and closure.
  • Track project schedules, budgets, quality, resources, and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify project risks, dependencies, resource gaps, and potential issues.
  • Facilitate issue resolution and escalate challenges to management when necessary.
  • Submit and manage change requests related to project and service changes.
  • Identify related projects and initiatives to ensure proper coordination and integration.
  • Provide ongoing status reporting to stakeholders and leadership.
  • 3. Standards Development & Enforcement -- 10%
  • Promote and enforce project management processes, tools, and documentation standards.
  • Mentor teams and individuals on project management best practices.
  • Monitor adherence to established processes and standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and project effectiveness.
  • Educate vendors and internal teams on university standards, quality expectations, documentation requirements, and best practices.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • Higher education experience is a plus.
  • 5+ years of technical project management experience.
  • Progressive experience in network infrastructure, structured cabling, and troubleshooting, including hands-on technical experience.
  • Current RCDD certification preferred; inactive RCDD, RCDD LAN Specialist, Installer, or Technician certification required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience reading blueprints and construction documentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Strong documentation skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Manage multiple priority projects and resources.
    • Develop and manage project implementation plans.
    • Identify and address resource gaps.
    • Coordinate internal and external resources.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BCSI Standards.
  • Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Construction or related industry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Fiber optic
    • Copper
    • Coaxial cabling
  • Ortronics manufacturer certification.
  • Experience with:
    • CATV
    • CCTV
    • LAN
    • VOIP
    • Audio/Video
  • Experience with McCormick estimating system or similar.
  • PMP or ITIL certification.
  • Licensed electrician.
