Costa Coffee is an international coffee retailer founded in 1971 by brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in London, United Kingdom. Now owned by The Coca-Cola Company, which acquired it in 2019 for approximately $4.9 billion, Costa operates thousands of coffee shops across the United Kingdom, Europe, China, the Middle East, and North America, employing approximately 13,000 people. As a premium coffee brand, Costa differentiates itself through emphasis on specialty coffee sourcing, barista training, and store experience quality. The company has been undergoing significant expansion in China and strengthening its sustainability and ethical sourcing commitments as part of Coca-Cola's portfolio, positioning itself as a quality-focused alternative to other international coffee chains.
Costa Coffee maintains a customer-service-focused culture with emphasis on coffee quality and barista craft. The company provides structured training and development pathways for retail and corporate employees, supported by Coca-Cola's corporate resources and global scale. Costa is increasingly focused on sustainability and ethical sourcing as core operating principles, reflecting broader corporate values. Work arrangements vary significantly by role, from in-store retail positions requiring onsite presence to corporate functions that offer hybrid flexibility.
